Remember

We come to this plane of existence in full remembrance of who and what we are, but we quickly learn to forget, and cling to the false reality of this place. Each month, I offer a reminder of the ever enduring Spirit that is YOU!

Remembers for

Without Which I Would Die

May 2, 2014 @ 9:00 am

When Nelson Mandela passed away at the end of 2013, I began to reflect on the public course of his political life. I was reminded of the primary reason I hold Mr. Mandela in such high esteem. It is summed up in the end of Nelson Mandela`s statement from the dock at the opening of the defense case in the Rivonia Trial Pretoria Supreme Court, 20 April 1964

“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for. But, my lord, if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.

This statement brought to the forefront of my mind the burning question – What ideal or principle was so entrenched and interwoven in my daily life, that if I had to give it up, my life would not be worth living? I answered this question for myself and through this process the substance of my life became even more clear to me.

Is there an ideal or principle you live everyday and in every way? An ideal or principle that permeates every aspect of your being and life? An ideal or principle without which your life would not be worth living? An ideal or principle for which you are willing to die?

I found mine, find yours!

  1. Irene Chung Says:

Most people do not have a principle or ideal that they are willing to die for. If they have, usually the ideal is attached to someone (spouse, parents, etc.) or something (career, money, social, political, etc.). Example would be suicide bombmers. The ideal or principle you are talking about refers to our own being on this planet?

  2. wiah Says:

Yes, exactly! The ideal or principle I speak of has to do with your own being, and is one that is completely interwoven in the fabric of your daily life.
